Top welterweight standout Neil Magny got back into the win column by turning away Erick Silva in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 74 last Sunday night (Aug. 23, 2015) inside SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, despite taking the fight on just two weeks notice.
Full recap here.
The split decision win (29-28, 28-29, 30-27) is likely to help Magny forget about his submission loss to Demian Maia earlier this month in Brazil, one that snapped a seven-fight winning streak and sent the 28-year-old prospect tumbling to No. 15 in the 170-pound rankings (see them here).
As for Silva?
Coming up short in Saskatoon is the latest setback for the 31-year-old Brazilian, who at one point was considered the future of the welterweight division. “Tiger,” however, has failed to live up to expectations and hovers just over the .500 mark with a 6-5 record under the UFC banner.
